Rippon Lea Estate is a tranquil oasis in the heart of suburbia. Spread over 14 acres, the Estate’s beautiful trees give structure to the garden and provide a perfect setting for the Mansion and fernery. This living collection is as much a part of the history and enjoyment of the Estate as the buildings and furniture. The trees are part of the legacy of Rippon Lea’s original owner, Sir Frederick Sargood, who planted them knowing that he would never live to see them reach their full potential.
There is a bigger picture here too. As our cities grow and population increases, trees will have an important role in keeping our cities liveable, healthy, and clean. Led by one of our experienced gardeners, this tour will give a fascinating insight into the work required to nurture Rippon Lea’s magnificent living collection and the challenges we face to keep it growing for future generations to enjoy.
